Dear Parents,

Summer Vacations are here with all the fun and frolic. Apart from enjoying we want the students to keep in touch with their studies also. Hence the holiday home work has been prepared keeping these points in mind. The holiday home work being given is creative and thought provoking. It can be done with some guidance from you and the teachers who will brief the students. We would request you to avoid taking any professional help. This holiday home work carries the weightage of 25 marks each for all subject.

Dear Students,

This summer vacations we will make an imaginary trip to the below mentioned continents and get to know more about them.

Roll No. : 1 – 10

1. Make a calendar based on 6 authors or poets from the following continents :

Sections - Continents
A & B - America
C & D - Africa
E & F - Australia

Each of the six pages must have :-

a) A portrait (printout, painting or sketch)
b) Life span (of the poet / author)
c) Famous work
d) Pseudonyms (if any ) (name assumed by writer)
e) Awards received

2. Prepare a project on the following topics referring to the fig (b) this will be done on a coloured pastel sheet (A 4 size & arranged as shown in the figure. B)

The project must have

a) Photograph & autograph of the person
b) Questions about their childhood, school, favourite teacher, favourite pastime memorable incidents / mischief.
c) Present engagement.

i) Anything that pleases them, what they would like to do if given a chance.
ii) Any unfulfilled dreams.
iii) Acknowledgement …………… who and what helped them to make the interview a success.

3. Make a simple model of a railway station in a shirt box and give its description, on a coloured pastel sheet.

MATHS

Prepare a chart or a scrap book (project) for the topics given below according to your roll nos.

ROLL NO. 1 – 8

Prepare a project “Money Money”

a) Collect pictures of currency of 5 different countries and Indian Currency.

b) Also collect picture of various food items or things we buy from the market with money.

c) Paste them in a scrap book. Then show for how much money of different countries we can buy, what amount or number of items.

d) All the information should be represented with the help of pictures.

ROLL NO. 9 – 16

a) Collect information about five famous mathematicians i.e. place of birth, education, life history. Contribution to the field of mathematics. Prepare a scrap book (project) on it.

b) It should be well supported with pictures

c) Use internet and books for collecting information.

d) Do not directly paste the printout from the computers.

e) Decorate your project files beautifully.

ROLL NO. 17 – 33

Prepare a chart on any of the topics given below or if possible any other topic from your course book.

a) Whole numbers and its properties
b) Various types of polygons.
c) 3 – D shapes.
d) Symmetry
e) Pictograph.

The chart should have a proper margin and should be well made. Also learn and remember the information represented on the chart as the questions based on them will be asked during submission of Holiday Assignment.


SCIENCE

Prepare a chart / scrap book for the topics below according to your roll numbers.

a) Your presentation should be well supported by information’s from reference books, internet, newspaper etc.

b) Use innovative ideas to make it more impressive and meaningful.

Q. 1 Information about the nutritional contents of foods can be found on labels of food packages. Check the labels on ten food packages at home and write down on a chart in the following tabulated method.

Q. 2 “How clean is the air your breathe ?

a) Cut several strips of wax paper of size 1”x3” and smear a thin layer of petroleum jelly on each waxed strip.
b) Place the strips in different locations like kitchen, bedroom, under a tree, in a park and close to a road with heavy traffic and secure them with adhesive tape.
c) Label each strip with the name of its location Leave the strips there for a week.
d) Collect all the strips after a week and place them over a white sheet of paper for close examination with a magnifier.
e) On the chart, fill the following information’s on a tabulated form,

Q. 3 Observing different kinds of flowers.

a) Take five different kinds of flowers from a garden. Do not pluck flowers. Pick only the fallen ones. Observe the structure of each of them and compare it with the others.

Q. 4. Collect 4” pieces of five different types of fabrics (cotton, jute, nylon, silk & wool) Now try the following steps with each sample and note down the observations on a chart.

a) Touch : Feel the cloth with your hands. Feel whether it is soft or rough to touch.

b) Absorption capacity : Take a dropper and pour 5 drops of water on each sample and notice which sample absorbs water immediately.

c) Evaporation of water : Keep the wet fabric cuttings in the sun for the same duration. You will notice that water evaporates faster in some sample.

Now note down the observation in a table.
