With the mercury soaring high in our city, we are looking forward to a refreshing and enriching vacation. So let us explore the world and it’s plethora of knowledge and experience.

Roll No. : 1 – 5

1. Make a calendar based on 6 authors or poets from any of the following countries (see fig A)

a) Russia
b) China
c) Japan
d) Malaysia
e) Bangladesh

· Each of the 6 pages must have :-
a) A portrait (print out, painting or sketch ) of an author or poet
b) The cover of one of their books
c) The text of one of their poems
· The dates and days of each month must be handwritten below the illustrations.
· It must be a wall hanging calendar. Refer to the illustration for clarity.
· Pages pertaining to each month must be made on half a pastel paper chart.

2. Make a chart based on any story by Munshi Premchand.

· Make the presentation on a full sized pastel paper chart.
· The chart must have :
a) The text of a short story by Premchand
b) A photograph or sketch of the author
c) Illustrations based on the story of your choice.
d) A short handwritten review of the story.
· The chart should be given a pleasing border.
· The text of the story ‘January Night’ given in your course book must not be used.

3. Prepare a wall hanging based on ‘My Mother’ (See fig B)

· There must be four panels joined together with string or wool to enable the project to hang on a wall with ease. Refer to the illustration for more clarity.
· Each panel must be made from an A4 sized pastel sheet.
· The first panel should comprise a photograph of your mother.
· The second panel should consists of a self composed poem or a letter dedicated to your mother.
· The third panel must contain a list ‘The things my mother does for me’
· The fourth panel should have a list of ‘Things I do for my mother’ .
· All panels must be decorated well.

4. Make strips of five proverbs and five quotations (ten in all) to mount on display boards.

· The quotations and proverbs must be handwritten.
· A full sized pastel chart must be cut into three parts horizontally in order to obtain three strips (3-4 full sized pastel charts will be required for this assignment)
· The strips must be large enough to mount on class boards.
· The quotations and proverbs should be illustrated appropriately.
· The strips must be given beautiful borders.

5. Prepare a power point presentation based on the poem ‘The Daffodils’ by William words worth given in your text book.

· In order to submit this assignment :
a) An e-mail should be sent to the subject teacher and
b) Print – outs of the project must be filed in an attractive cover.
· The presentation is to be made in the following pattern.
a) A title slide with the name of the poem and poet.
b) One or two slides based on the poet’s career, his life span, two examples of his work and his picture.
c) The text of the poem must be written on the slides line by line. This text should be accompanied by corresponding images.
d) The meanings of new words encountered in the poem should be illustrated with images.
e) A minimum of 15 slides must be made.

6. Make a chart based on idioms.

· Work must be done on a full sized pastel chart.
· One column on the chart should contain five idioms.
· The second column must have the meanings of the given idioms.
· Five sentences using the given idioms must be written in a third column.
· The idioms must be illustrated with appropriate pictures or sketches.
· Remember to give the chart a pretty border.























SCIENCE

Prepare a model / project on the topic given below according to your roll numbers.

Roll No. : 1 - 8

a) Observe various kinds of plants around you. You will find a variety of plants. Collect samples / pictures of the plants which :

· Grow in open sun (outdoor) and under the shade (indoor)
· Are green and non green in colour
· Grow in decaying matter
· Climb over other plants
· Show symbiotic relationship
· Feed on insects.

Prepare a project file on the basis of following guidelines.

· Compare these plants with each other.
· Paste the plants / pictures
· Tabulate their characteristics features such as colour of leaves, mode of nutrition, site of photosynthesis etc.

b) Do a case studies on the rainforests of western ghats. Collect information on and pictures of the following and prepare a project file.

· Locate the forests on the map of India (geological landscape)
· A few plants & animals species living there.
· The climate
· The amount of rainfall
· How well these forests are preserved.
· Problems that these forests are facing.
· Ways to solve these problems.
· Prepare a crossword puzzle.

c) Make a model showing the inside structure of a chloroplast & open stoma. You can use cardboard, green paper, thermocol and other materials. Cut out the discs of cardboard and cover it with green paper then make stacks to green grana of chloroplast. Diagram of chloroplast is given for your reference.

d) Make a 3D model on “Life Cycle of Silk Moth”.

Your model presentation should be well supported with relevant text. Use innovative ideas to make it impressive & meaningful.

MATHS


Prepare a chart or a scrap book (project) for the topics given below according to your Roll Nos.

Roll No. : 1 – 15

Make a folder with a hand made sheet and decorate it with the beautiful figure made by a Tangram. The figure can be of any bird, animal or human. The folder is to be appropriately decorated

Tangram : Seven pieces are cut from a square of size 10cm or 20cm as required and these pieces are arranged to form figures.

Roll No. : 16 – 32

Prepare a chart on any topic given below or any other topic from your syllabus :-

a) Types of Triangles and their properties.
b) Rules for congruence of triangles
c) Perimeter and Area of various figures (Triangles, Rectangles, Square Circle etc)
d) Solid shapes with their faces, edges and vertices (Write below or prepare a table)
e) Nets of solid shapes
f) Pythagoras theorem with explanation.

The charts should have proper margin and should be well made . Also prepare and learn about the topic on which chart is made as questions will be asked during time of submission.

SOCIAL SCIENCE


Roll No. : 1 – 5

a) Using clay design a new token currency that can be used in India. Use your imagination and be sure to make it forgery – proof.

OR

Find out whether there are any buildings built by the Delhi Sultanas in your area between the 12th – 15th century ? Describe some of these buildings by pasting or drawing their sketches in the scrap book.

Your project should include the following details :

· Name of the building
· Who built it
· Its significance
· It’s picture

    d) Imagine you are a journalist in Delhi, writing for a medieval newspaper. Of course there, wasn’t any newspapers in those days, but make up one. It is 25 January, 1556& Yesterday, emperor Humayun has died. Write a report in the newspaper describing the king’s life & his death. Make a chart to look like the front page of the newspaper with the report. Draw and colour pictures too.

    Prepare a project on any one world heritage site of India
