HOLIDAY HOME WORK
CLASS – VIII






SUBJECT:
ENGLISH
Roll No. : 1 – 5 (See Fig A)
1. Make a project on H.H. MUNRO ‘Saki’ or. Henry, (short story writers), in the form of a wall hanging.

a) First panel should have sketch / printout of the author, with important information about them.

b) Second panel : Text of a short story written by them। Choose a small one.

c) Third panel : Your comment on the story।

d) Fourth panel : An illustration from the story – a scene or a character।

e) You may increase the no। of panels if needed and change the order too.

f) Use coloured pastel sheets for the hanging. Make decorated borders too.

1. Collect quotations on the following topics
a) Health

b) Books

c) Friendship

d) Peace

e) Teachers
Select the best and make five clouds out of coloured pastel sheets, cutting out 3 clouds from one pastel sheet.

2. Decorate borders, write one quotation on each cloud in beautiful and bold handwriting.








Roll No. : 11 – 20 (See Fig B)




a) Make a wall calendar based on 6 authors or poets from European Countries.
b) Plan it this way. Fold two pastel sheets to get four pages of your calendar.
c) Let the first be introductory page : bearing your cover design, name etc.
d) All the pages should have :

i) A portrait / sketch or printout of the author / poet.
ii) Cover of one of their books, hand drawn / printout or sketched.
iii) Any awards won
iv) Text of one of their poems ( if he / she ) a poet.
v) The dates should be handwritten by you. Make the calendar attractive by designing border / background.

Roll No. : 21 – 25
a) Make a project on martyrs of Kargil / of the terrorist attacks in Mumbai.
b) You must choose three personalities :
i) First panel should have their photo / sketch / printout with their names and posts.
ii) Second panel should have the story of their bravery.
iii) Third panel should have some information about their families.
iv) Fourth panel should have a paragraph written by you on ‘Our real heroes’.

c) You may convert this into a wall hanging , or a fan folding panel.

Roll No. : 25 onwards
a) Make a chart on verb forms. Present, Past, Past participle
b) Illustrate wherever possible.
c) Design a good border for the chart.
d) Write at least twenty verbs (not too common) in the chart in bold handwriting.













SCIENCE

Prepare a PPT / chart on the topic given below according to your roll numbers.
Roll No. : 1 - 8
a) Prepare a power point presentation on the topic ‘Micro – Organisms & Diseases’. Prepare attractive slides to show.

i) How micro organisms spread diseases through air, water, food or physical contact.
ii) Name the various diseases caused by virus and bacteria.
iii) Show how these diseases can be avoided by being hygienic.
iv) Show how clean environment and general awareness about modes of spreading of these diseases can control the spread of these communicable diseases.

b) Prepare a power point presentation on the topic ‘Pollution Free Fuels’. Prepare informative and attractive slides to show :

i) Various types of fuels used for different purposes.
ii) Use of CNG and LPG.
iii) Use and preparation of biodiesel.
iv) Judicious use of fuels by methods like using public transport or carpooling.

c) Prepare a chart on the topic :- ‘Think Global act local’.
You should depict the topic based on ‘Water’

d) Start an awareness campaign in your neighbourhood on the topic ‘Noise Pollution’ Collect information & pictures from internet, reference books, magazines, newspaper etc. Prepare a chart / poster on the basis of following guidelines.


· Noise & Music
· Identify the sources of noise pollution in your area.
· Consult a doctor and get information on the harmful effects of noise pollution.
· Suggest various ways for reducing noise pollution
· Your role (action) as a member of this campaign.

Prepare a project or a model for the topics given below according to your roll numbers.

Roll No. : 1 – 15
Prepare a model (non-working or working) on any topic of your syllabus. Some topics are given below for your reference.

a) 3D shapes with their faces, vertices, edges
b) Front, side & top view of various shapes
c) Area of a circle (Activity given on page No. 221, NCERT book of class – VII)
d) Puzzles from other books
e) Various types of quadrilaterals with their properties.
f) Angle sum property of quadrilaterals.

These models are to be made on Thermocol Sheet.
Roll No. : 16 – 30 or last Roll No.
Prepare a project (scrap book) on the following topics.

a) History of the constant II and its application
b) Nature and Mathematics
c) Real life application of Pythagoras theorem.

The project should have complete information and pictures related to the topic and is to be well made.

Collect the information about daily temperature (max & min) for a period of four weeks. Draw a line graph for each week and compare the records after calculating the average temperature for the four weeks.
